The new technology is a water retention device made of straw slurry in the shape of a half tire. The hollow retains water to the maximum and two tubes gently channel the water into the roots by a process of syphonage, increasing the sapling survival rate. The device is degradable and also helps to stabilize the sand. Elion’s smart idea has made desertification control more effective and less complicated. [Photo by Yang Jia]
