Words from hearts of the impoverished

Living in Yanjiaping Village, Jialu Town, Jia County, in the city of Yulin, of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, Yan Dengming lost part of his working capacity due to illness. The in-village poverty alleviation group from the Yulin Organization Department helped him join the Haiyuan chicken cooperative. By raising 30 chickens, he was lifted out of poverty by the end of 2016. He holds up a sign that reads, “Ever since we’ve had cooperatives, my eggs have turned into coins!” [Photo by Liu Hongtao]
