This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. In early 1990s, UNDP and CICETE introduced the concept of microfinance and launched the program of Building an Inclusive Financial Sector in China. The UN agency contributed to the establishment of pilot MFIs in the country and supported policy study by PBOC. With its focus on helping China reduce poverty, UNDP, as one of the largest UN agencies in China, has been using microcredit and inclusive finance as a tool since then for providing more financial services for the poor and the most vulnerable groups in China.
