Dr. Liang Zheng was born and raised in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He finished his BA and MA in Beijing and received a Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2011. Later, he joined the faculty of Xinjiang University. In 2019, he moved to Guangzhou. He is currently an associate dean of the School of Journalism and Communication and the director of the Institute for Communication and Borderland Governance at Jinan University
Dr. Zheng specialized in global communication, communication and governance, counterterrorism & de-radicalization, and the reconstruction of the world’s human rights discourse. He has authored numerous publications on those topics. In March 2019, Dr. Zheng presented his research on Xinjiang at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Zheng was awarded research funding primarily by China Social Science Foundation and other national foundations. His works were widely acknowledged and acclaimed in academia, think tanks, and professional institutions/organizations.
