Chinese blind celebrate White Cane Safety Day with music to convey hope

Xiao Xuejuan has been a music teacher in Taoyuan Elementary School in Yunnan province for about 27 years. Music has helped her find confidence despite being vision-impaired from birth. She uses gestures and words to teach her sighted students music, and also gets help from them in reading lyrics and understanding music scores.

“Although I need more time to teach without eyesight, my students can understand what I mean,” Xiao said. “I’m very fond of my students, and they like me too.”
