Poverty-stricken villages develop characteristic industries to shake off poverty in S China's Guangxi

Aerial photo taken on Feb. 29, 2020 shows villagers planting sugarcane at Zhishan Village in Luzhai County, Liuzhou City, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In recent years, Luzhai County has strengthened its characteristic industries in poverty alleviation efforts. Some 89 percent poverty-stricken households in Luzhai County are engaged in characteristic industries, including planting and animal husbandry. From 2016 to 2019, all 22 poverty-stricken villages in Luzhai County have shaken off poverty, with the number of impoverished residents in the county dropping from 27,587 to 1,013.
