South-South Human Rights Forum participants tour Hangzhou

About 100 representatives from more than 70 developing countries and the United Nations visited Hangzhou from Dec. 8 to 9 before heading to Beijing to attend the 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum.
Waitongwu village, a village famous for the West Lake Longjing tea planting, was their first stop in Hangzhou on Sunday, where they had the chance to see the changes of rural areas after China implemented the rural revitalization strategy. The representatives also enjoyed some Chinese cultural products there such as tea, silk and Chinese calligraphy. Then they visited Alibaba Xixi Campus where they saw the most cutting-edge innovation and technologies. After dinner, they enjoyed a live cultural show performed on the West Lake.
On Monday morning, representatives took a walk by the West Lake and listened to the fairytales about the lake. Then they visited the Citizen’s Center – a landmark building in Hangzhou, and City Balcony -- an ecological park, where they took a close look at the locals’ life.
All the representatives are expected to attend the 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum that will be held from December 9 to 10. With the theme of “Diversity of Civilizations and Global Development of Human Rights,” the forum features four sub-topics: “Path of Human Rights Development under the Background of the Diversity of Civilization,” “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Human Beings and Global Human Rights Governance”, ”The Right to Development: The Belt and Road Initiative Promotes the Realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development“ and “The Practice and Experience of Human Rights Protection in the Countries of Global South.”
