In accordance with a decision taken on December 29, 2005, by the 19th session of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People’s Congress, China’s government abolished agricultural land tax on January 1, 2006. This marked the end of an ancient tax that had been in place in China for over 2,600 years. Policies that benefit farmers have stimulated their enthusiasm to grow more grain.
