After the completion of the school, Wang Wenbiao took the lead in donating 50,000 yuan (U.S. $7,356) to buy books for the library. With donations amounting to one million yuan (U.S. $147,000), the library now has more than 100,000 books, making it the biggest and most comprehensive library among such schools in western China.
To date, 6,353 km2 of the Kubuqi Desert have been improved, accounting for more than one third of its total area of 18,600 km2. We can say that desertification control and afforestation have made great difference in Kubuqi, and that Elion Oriental School offers new hopes for tomorrow. To be the master of the desert, we have to depend on the children. [Photo by Yang Jia]
