In March 20, 2008, a sudden flood washed away the banks of the Yellow River in Kuisu, Hangjin. It was the worst flood that Duguitela Town and Hangjin Nur Village had suffered for decades. Houses were submerged and traffic was disrupted. More than 10,000 people had no access to water, electricity and accommodation. When the flood receded, several schools nearby were in a dreadful state. Seeing the risk of children being forced to drop out, Wang Wenbiao decided to donate funds to rebuild the schools. A year later, a modern school had sprung straight from the ground. Known as Elion Oriental School, it includes a kindergarten, primary school, high school, and senior vocational school as well as a Party school for farmers and herdsmen. [Photo by Yang Jia]
