UN resident coordinator: China's poverty reduction achievements bring inspirations to the world

A grand gathering to mark the nation's poverty alleviation accomplishments and honor model poverty fighters was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday. Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that China has secured a "complete victory" in its fight against poverty.

UN resident coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee said during an exclusive interview by China.org.cn yesterday," I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the government of China and president Xi Jinping in particular, for the remarkable work in the last 40 years. But more particularly so, in the last 8 years, about 100 million people were removed out of extreme poverty in the rural areas, and that is very remarkable and commendable. I hope to see that they are able to share the important lessons of China with the rest of the world and particularly with Africa about how it can be done."

Chatterjee noted that China's great achievements in poverty reduction bring important inspirations to the world, which mainly include the following three lessons. Firstly, poverty reduction work requires strong political will that rises at the highest level. President Xi Jinping shares the will to every level of the country. Secondly, the robust public policy is also very important. Without the robust public policy, the poverty reduction work would not have clear guidance and therefore the achievements may not have been accomplished. Thirdly but the most importantly, for marching for the 2030 agenda, partnership is one of the most essential foundations.
