Mose Xiaolan is a member of the poverty alleviation team in Wa’er village, Dahua township, Yuexi county, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province and teaches at Yuexi’s Xicheng Middle School. She grew up in an impoverished family and would not have been able to finish university without assistance from kindhearted people. The Yuexi native returned to the county after she graduated in order to teach there and established a special financial aid program in 2010 that is designed to help more impoverished students from Liangshan have the opportunity to attend university.
People from all walks of life have donated 1.94 million yuan (US$296,626) to Mose’s organization thus far. Three hundred fifty-eight students who were living in poverty have received support from altruistic donors, and more than 2,700 people have been given supplies. Her program has brought hope to children who come from impoverished families in the Daliang mountains region and has helped to reduce poverty via education in Liangshan.
“I have devoted myself to helping impoverished students and will continue to do so,” Mose explained recently.
