Chinese medical assistance for 18 African countries arrived in Accra, capital of Ghana on April 6, to help African countries combat the COVID-19 pandemic, according to China International Development Cooperation Agency’s official website.

The supplies, which included medical masks, protective gowns, goggles, forehead thermometers and ventilators, will be delivered to the other 17 countries within a few days.

As a responsible major power, China fulfills its responsibilities by sending medical supplies to Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, Benin, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Wang Shiting, Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and its Minister of Health Kwaku Agyeman Manu, as well as ambassadors of Central and West African countries to Ghana and representatives of international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the World Food Programme attended the ceremony.

Botchwey and Ambassador Mba Bela Abaha, the Dean of the African diplomatic corps, praised China’s contribution to African’s fight against the COVID-19, highly valued China-African friendship, and hoped to enhance international cooperation especially with China to jointly defeat the disease.
