China's Guangdong allocates 100 bln yuan for poverty alleviation

Since 2016, south China's Guangdong Province has allocated a fund totaling nearly 100 billion yuan (about 14.2 billion U.S. dollars) for poverty alleviation in the province and assistance for other provincial-level regions.
According to the provincial finance department, a special fund totaling 80 billion yuan has been dispensed to various poverty eradication programs in Guangdong since 2016.
By 2019, Guangdong had lifted 1.6 million people out of poverty, with a poverty reduction rate of 90.7 percent. The poverty rate also dropped to less than 0.1 percent from 4.54 percent.
Meanwhile, the province has also provided financial assistance to 93 poverty-stricken counties in other provinces since 2016. To date, nearly 16 billion yuan has been offered to help 3.8 million people increase their income.
