Book of global partners' views on China's poverty alleviation released

On October 16, 2019, the Chinese and English versions of “A Foreign Lens: How global partners view China's poverty alleviation efforts” were unveiled at the 2019 China Poverty Reduction International Forum. On the theme of “Joint efforts on knowledge sharing, to promote global poverty reduction governance,” this forum was co-hosted by China Internet Information Center (CIIC), International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB)，Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP).

On October 16, 2019, the Chinese and English versions of “A Foreign Lens: How global partners view China's poverty alleviation efforts” are unveiled at the 2019 China Poverty Reduction International Forum. 

Unlike other such works, this book allows non-Chinese writers to describe poverty alleviation in China through their personal experiences, which makes the stories more accessible to the international community.

This book is a collection of views from international partners on the most important elements of poverty alleviation in China. It contains a total of 25 interviews and comments from 70 high-level officials, scholars and journalists from 12 international institutions and 25 countries, including António Guterres, UN secretary-general,Tegegnework Gettu, then UN under-secretary-general,Gilbert F. Houngbo, president of IFAD, Agi Veres, UNDP deputy assistant administrator, H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, deputy secretary-general of ASEAN, and Dr. Sabina Alkire, director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative(OPHI) at the University of Oxford.

The writers share China’s achievements in poverty alleviation, and China’s system, theories, development pathand culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics.As a guide to open-minded readers throughout the world, observing China from the perspective of poverty alleviation, this book will help make the China model understandable and accessible to a wider audience.

On October 16, 2019, the Chinese and English versions of “A Foreign Lens: How global partners view China's poverty alleviation efforts” are unveiled at the 2019 China Poverty Reduction International Forum. 

“The progress that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has made in reducing poverty in the last 40 years is an historical achievement and has been a major factor in the progress that the world has made towards both the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),”Benedict Bingham, then country director, resident mission in the PRC, Asian Development Bank, wrote in his preface to the book. “This book is therefore very timely, as it will help policy makers and international development practitioners learn about the PRC’s experience and adapt it to their own specific conditions.”

The book was compiled by CIIC and IPRCC, and published by the Foreign Languages Press.
