H.E. Dr. Ouk Rabun, Cambodia’s Minister of Rural Development, while attending the 2017 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum in Beijing, expressed his thanks to the people and government of China for their support to the development of Cambodia’s physical infrastructure and human resources, particularly for the improvement in the country’s rural roads and water supply. He praised China as an efficient development partner of Cambodia.

H.E. Hap Omaly, the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Rural Development of Cambodia, added that the construction of Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge and the launch of a China-aided pilot project for poverty reduction have served as a new eyewitness to China-Cambodia friendship and made outstanding contributions to Cambodia’s poverty alleviation.

Mr. Bounheuang Duangphachanh, President of the National Committee for Rural Development and Poverty Eradication of Laos, believes that the Pilot Project of Poverty Reduction Cooperation in East Asia is of great significance to improving people’s livelihood in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar and narrowing the gap within the ASEAN. Somsanith Souvannalath, Vice Chair of the National Committee for Rural Development and Poverty Eradication of Laos, reckons that the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China is conducive to the cooperation of the ASEAN countries in trade, human resources and finance. He said that the Lao government is actively promoting the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, especially the launch of high-speed rail projects, which will facilitate rural poverty reduction.
