China’s Achievements Benefit the World

Ayodele Odusola, Chief Economist for the UNDP Africa, described China’s targeted measures of poverty alleviation as “noble, very novelty, and very very comprehensive.”

Ayodele Odusola, Chief Economist of the UNDPRegional Bureau for Africa.

“It goes beyond just using income to determine poverty, it’s a new strategy China is using, access to food, access to housing, access to education, as well as health services, are considered to be very practical. And we consider this to be very very important for other countries to follow. Because this is something that will alleviate not only poverty, but also expand opportunities for human development in many countries,” said Odusola.

He added that China is making a very solid progress in terms of reducing poverty, which is helping the whole world.

Thomas Jackson, an expert on international development with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, considers that China’s approach to poverty reduction can offer a lot of lessons and best practices that can be adapted and used in other countries. “Other countries obviously also are very interested to learn from Chinese experience. So we support the Chinese government with their efforts to promote the South-South Cooperation through knowledge exchange, through training, through study tours, all these kinds of activities that share China’s practice,” he said.
