Over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, the Chinese people have explored a distinctive path of poverty reduction. Many developing countries have expressed their hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in poverty reduction with China.
Jagdeo Bhootooa, an official with the Ministry of Social Security National Solidarity and Reform Institution in Mauritius, said, “We have the responsibility to explore ways for sustainable development of rural areas in our country based on the successful experience of China’s poverty alleviation projects in rural and marginalized areas.”
Diawara Hamidou Almamy, an official with the Ministry of Finance, Mali, thinks that the field visits in Nanning of Guangxi are helpful for a more comprehensive understanding of China’s anti-poverty work based on local situation, such as China’s rural poverty reduction strategy system, and China’s development-oriented poverty alleviation measures. “After returning to Mali, we will fulfill our duties to apply China’s poverty reduction experience to the development of our country and launch pilot projects,” he said.
Ndadzungira Charity, an official with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Republic of Zimbabwe, said, “Comprehensive and informative theoretical presentations by knowledgeable high-ranking personnel, combined with practical visits of strategic rural development sites in China, have to a great extent complemented our understanding of China’s strides in putting rural development and poverty reduction strategies into action.” Lessons learnt from several rural development and poverty reduction-oriented projects are worth taking home for application, Charity added.
Krishna Prasad Ghiire Upadhyay from the Nepal-China Economic and Trade Association described the field visits as offering “a chance to acquire and enhance knowledge on how China is implementing long-term projects for poverty reduction and rural transformation”. He said that he would share it with his country.
