Poverty alleviation in Hubei features reform and innovation

With poverty reduction being prioritized in the 13th Five-Year Plan, in 2016, Hubei lifted 1.47 million people and 1,601 villages out of poverty; 120,400 households or 328,400 people were relocated, exceeding the forecast by 43% and 24% respectively.

The poverty alleviation initiative built in Hubei features reform and innovation.

Hubei initiated capital adjustment so that all financial funds allocated to persons, households and villages were managed within the scope of targeted poverty alleviation, regardless of allocation year, category, source or amount.

The province also initiated accurate recognition data auditing. 256 auditors covered 94 counties for more accurate and authentic files. 

An innovative social platform was set up. With industrial establishment, resource investment, cooperative operation and joint development as major approaches, Hubei vigorously conducted the “Thousands of Enterprises Assist Thousands of Villages” initiative and has gained recognition from national leaders. 

Hubei has been devoted to building social awareness with poverty alleviation initiatives. The Action Plan to Further Stimulate Inner Power and Cultural Poverty Alleviation was issued to promote quality-oriented poverty eradication. Lecture tours were organized to share successful experiences and extraordinary achievements by representative individuals including Wei Dengdian, Wang Guangguo, Luo Guanzhang, Yang Caiju, etc. 

2017 is the year to further advance poverty eradication. Hubei will fully implement President Xi Jinping’s strategic thinking by emphasizing quality, accuracy, comprehensiveness and inner power, striving to realize the goal of lifting 950,000 people, 1,520 villages and 9 counties out of poverty.
