Yuexi County, located in east China’s Anhui Province, is one of the poorest in the whole country and is known as a “left-behind” hometown. Of the more than 100 students, grades one to five, studying in Zhuangzhong Primary School in Changpu Town, 80–90% are left behind by their parents, who worked at cities for a living.
With help from the local poverty relief office, the poverty alleviation team of JD.com—one of China’s e-commerce giants—held a charity event at the school and donated computers, stationery, sporting goods, food, and other gifts to the students. Among the gifts presented, the most heartwarming was a short film, recorded and edited by JD.com, of the students’ parents sending their heartfelt best wishes.
