In Langshan Town, Linhe District, Bayan Nur—a city of north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region—there is a village called Fuqiang, which in Chinese translates to “prosperous and powerful”. With its beautiful scenery, favorable environment for industrial development and tourism, as well as well-preserved Hetao-style farming culture, Fuqiang was awarded as one of the top 10 most beautiful villages in China in 2016.

Fuqiang, however, was not always the celebrated, decorated destination that it is today. It used to be a poor village mainly dependent on farming; but through reconstruction and agritourism development, Fuqiang has reversed its fortunes to become very popular. There are five functional zones in the village: Culture Demonstration, Experience Economy, Pastoral Scenery, Tourist Resorts and Quality Farming. Not only can visitors enjoy cycling, planting, and crop picking, but they may also visit oil and tofu factories, attend exhibitions or performances, and even hold annual meetings and weddings. The business generated from tourists boosts the local economy and broadens villagers’ sources of income.
