The Lao Front for National Development (LFND) is planning to expand its solidarity village fund project to support farming families and cooperative groups to promote socio-economic development in rural areas.

The project is designed to provide accessible funding for rural communities, helping families grow seasonal crops, raise livestock, develop skills, and generate income through commercial activities. The initiative aims to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods, and strengthen local economies in line with national development policies, the Vientiane Mai newspaper reported on Monday.

Beyond financial support, the project also offers training in agriculture and livestock breeding, helps lower production costs by improving access to tools and materials, and supports the marketing and distribution of agricultural products.

So far, 44 villages across 23 districts in 10 provinces have established funds under the initiative. The project will continue to expand to other provinces based on their readiness and development potential.

The project supports a wide range of crops, including rice, sweetcorn, beans, fruit, mulberries, cassava, rubber, coffee, tea, and mushrooms. It also promotes livestock farming such as cattle, pigs, goats, and fish. In addition, the initiative encourages the development of handicrafts, transportation, tourism, and trade, while also helping to collect and purchase agricultural products directly from farmers.

The project is guided by long-term goals focused on expansion, sustainability, and strengthening grassroots development. ■
