Located on the southern edge of the Horqin sandy land, Zhangwu County was once plagued by sand and dust storms. For more than 70 years, people here have made unremitting efforts in transforming the ecological environment of this area to win the tough battle against desertification. The forest coverage rate of Zhangwu has increased from 2.9 percent to more than 30 percent, while the number of dusty days per year has fallen to single digits.
