Agricultural production in Matangi Tisa Village, Kenya primarily relies on small-scale farming, with crop cultivation frequently impacted by drought. Since 2022, with support from the China-IFAD South-South and Triangular Cooperation Facility, a project team has been established by experts from China's Nanjing Agricultural University and Kenya's Egerton University.
The new food bean variety "Chelalang," developed by the China-Kenya Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Crop Molecular Biology, is being promoted as a trial crop in the demonstration village. This variety is drought-tolerant, highly nutritious, and delivers a high yield.
