Laos' Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and development partners have launched a project to improve the health and nutrition of children and rural communities in southern Laos' Saravan province.

The ministry has partnered with its development partners to launch Sustainable Agriculture for Nutrition (SUAN), aiming to help eradicate malnutrition, end hunger, and promote good health and well-being of vulnerable children in Laos.

According to a report issued on Wednesday by the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the project aims to significantly improve nutrition and food security in the three districts of Saravan province, some 670 km southeast of capital Vientiane.

The achievements of the SUAN project are expected to transform the lives of the people in Saravan and contribute significantly to Laos' advancement of its national plan of action on nutrition for 2021-2025, the five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2021-2025, and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

The project will work with farmers and agricultural production groups to increase and diversify their production, improve the dietary and care practices of women of reproductive age and children under five, and promote the participation of all genders and people with disabilities in Nutrition-Sensitive Climate Smart Agriculture.
