The local residents, geographical and ecological location as well as natural conditions co-evolve and evolve continuously in Zhagana village, Gansu province. This unique agricultural production is relatively closed, compact, complete, and self-sufficient, which is outstanding, said FAO Representative to China Carlos Watson.

In the recent years, the living environment, environmental sanitation, infrastructure, and tourism services and facilities have been improved in Zhagana. It was designated a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by FAO in 2017. Zhagana’s booming tourism enables people to experience the value of the Agriculture-Forestry-Animal Husbandry Composite System in new ways.
