China’s online sales of farm produce expected to exceed 300 bln

China’s online retail sales of agricultural products exceeded 230 billion yuan ($34 billion) in 2018, with the year-on-year growth of 33.8%, according to Xinhua online report.

“At present, we have organized 29 e-commerce and related enterprises to help 487 companies in 351 poverty-stricken counties promote online sales and got a good achievement,” said Qian Fangli, director of the Department of Electronic Commerce and Informatization under the Ministry of Commerce, at a national business conference.

Last year the ministry supported the construction of some 1000 county-level public service and logistics distribution centers,and more than 70,000 village-level e-commerce sites, which cover 26,000 poverty-stricken villages across the country, according to Zheng Shuwei, director of the Department of Market System Development.

By the end of 2018, 334 counties in China are still in extreme poverty, according to statistics from the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development. These counties will be the key of Chinese poverty alleviation work in next two years.
