From a poor fishing village of the 1970s to China’s first village where households had savings of 10,000 yuan and above thanks to the opening up and reform programs, Shenzhen has turned into a“smart city” where cutting-edge technology helps keep the city moving. On August 26, 1979, theStanding Committee of the 5th National People’s Congress approved the establishment of a special economic zone in Shenzhen.
