Wangdu County—located in Baoding, a city in China’s Hebei Province—is taking targeted yet innovative measures to eliminate poverty through industrial development. On December 17, 2015, 22 disabled people who are able to work in Dongbaicheng Village received, free of charge, 44 healthy and pregnant goats from Wangdu Disabled Persons’ Federation. All of them were mated with precious black-bone breeding goats. At the end of 2015, two pregnant goats gave birth to at least five lambs; and at the end of 2016, the number was figured to be 15–20. In 2017, each disabled household may expect a flock of about 100 goats and a net annual income increase of 5,000 yuan (U.S. $725).
