[Poverty Alleviation Through a Lens] Land of Hope in Jingcheng

Qianzhai modern agricultural demonstration zone is located in Jingcheng town of Nanjing county, Fujian province. Using a model based on “company+cooperative+farmers”, Qianzhai has unified planning, production and sales on behalf of more than 100 impoverished households who joined the cooperative and took part in developing the base. The families’ incomes have risen to more than 30,000 yuan per annum (c. U.S. $4,350).

During the course of 2016, taking advantage of its favorable location and resources, Jingcheng town built Nanjing Qianzhai modern agricultural demonstration zone. The goal was to create a zone that would operate as an urban farmland, a paradise for visitors, and a market garden for the city. The zone covers an area of just over 1000 acres. 5 companies were invited to carry out large-scale order-based planting. The vegetable planting area in the zone currently exceeds 160 acres, and it is fast becoming a land of hope for Jingcheng.
